Sergio Garcia with Andalucia Masters trophySergio Garcia is getting used to winning again.

One week after breaking through for his first victory in three years, Garcia doubled up by beating fellow Spaniard Miguel Angel Jimenez by a stroke at the Andalucia Masters. Garcia finished 6-under-par during a difficult week at Club de Golf Valderrama.

Garcia entered the final round ahead by two, but was overtaken by Jimemez on the front nine. Garcia birdied the 11th and 14th holes and reclaimed the lead when Jimenez bogeyed on 13 and 15. The 47-year-old challenger wasn’t done, however, making birdies on 16 and 17 to close within one.

When Jimenez couldn’t coax in a 15-foot putt at the last, Garcia triumphed by saving par from off the green.

Garcia, who won the Castello Masters by 11 the previous week, was “out of words” at day’s end. “It’s been an amazing two weeks,” he said.

Adding to Garcia’s joy, he became the first Spaniard to win a stroke-play event at Valderrama, one of Spain’s most revered clubs. He also jumped back into the world’s top 20 after slipping out of the top 75 during his slump.

Elsewhere, Rory McIlroy won the Shanghai Masters in a playoff over Anthony Kim. McIlroy had to settle for a £1.25 million payday – the richest in golf — as the event did not count toward world rankings points.

McIlroy and a host of European, U.S. and international stars will compete this week in the World Golf Championships-HSBC Champions tournament, also in Shanghai.
